DRDO is the R&D wing of Ministry of Defence, Govt of India, with a vision to empower India with cutting-edge defence technologies and a mission to achieve self-reliance in critical defence technologies and systems, while equipping our armed forces with state-of-the-art weapon systems and equipment in accordance with requirements laid down by the three Services. DRDO’s pursuit of self-reliance and successful indigenous development and production of strategic systems and platforms such as Agni and Prithvi series of missiles; light combat aircraft, Tejas; multi-barrel rocket launcher, Pinaka; air defence system, Akash; a wide range of radars and electronic warfare systems; etc., have given quantum jump to India’s military might, generating effective deterrence and providing crucial leverage.

DRDO was formed in 1958 from the amalgamation of the then already functioning Technical Development Establishment (TDEs) of the Indian Army and the Directorate of Technical Development & Production (DTDP) with the Defence Science Organization (DSO). DRDO was then a small organization with 10 establishments or laboratories. Over the years, it has grown multi-directionally in terms of the variety of subject disciplines, number of laboratories, achievements and stature.
Today, DRDO is a network of more than 50 laboratories which are deeply engaged in developing defence technologies covering various disciplines, like aeronautics, armaments, electronics, combat vehicles, engineering systems, instrumentation, missiles, advanced computing and simulation, special materials, naval systems, life sciences, training, information systems and agriculture. Several major projects for the development of missiles, armaments, light combat aircrafts, radars, electronic warfare systems etc. are on hand and significant achievements have already been made in several such technologies.
The following Junior Research Fellowships are available for candidates possessing requisite qualifications, initially for a period of two years at this Laboratory, in the subject/disciplines as detailed below:-

1) (JRF) Electrical & Electronics Engg / Electronics & Communication Engineering
✅ Age Limit:
✔️ Maximum 28 years.
✅ Pay Scale:- Rs.31,000/- plus House Rent Allowance.
✅ Educational Qualification:
✔️ BE/B.Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engg / Electronics & Communication Engineering in 1st Division with valid NET/GATE qualification.
OR
✔️ ME/M.Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engg /Electronics & Communication Engineering in 1st Division both at Graduate and Post graduate level.
2) (JRF) Chemical Engg/ Chemistry/Polymer Science /Material Science
✅ Age Limit:
✔️ Maximum 28 years.
✅ Pay Scale:- Rs.31,000/- plus House Rent Allowance.
✅ Educational Qualification:
✔️ BE/B.Tech in Chemical Engg in 1% Division with valid NET/GATE qualification.
OR
✔️ ME/M.Tech in Chemical Engg in 1st Division both at Graduate and Post graduate level.
✔️ For Chemistry/ Polymer Science/Material Science, Post graduate Degree in Basic Science pertaining to the subject/discipline in 1st Division with valid NET qualification.
3) (JRF) Oceanography /Ocean Technology /Meteorology
✅ Age Limit:
✔️ Maximum 28 years.
✅ Pay Scale:- Rs.31,000/- plus House Rent Allowance.
✅ Educational Qualification:
✔️ Post graduate Degree in Basic Science pertaining to the subject/discipline in 1* Division with valid NET qualification.
OR
✔️ ME / M.Tech in Oceanography/ Ocean Technology/ Meteorology in first division both at Graduate and Post graduate level
4) (JRF) Computer Science & Engineering
✅ Age Limit:
✔️ Maximum 28 years.
✅ Pay Scale:- Rs.31,000/- plus House Rent Allowance.
✅ Educational Qualification:
✔️ B.E/B.Tech in Computer Science in 1st Division with valid NET/GATE qualification.
OR
✔️ M.E/M.Tech in Computer Science in first division both at Graduate and Post graduate level.
5) (JRF) Opto Electronics
✅ Age Limit:
✔️ Maximum 28 years.
✅ Educational Qualification:
✔️ BE/B.Tech in Opto Electronics in 1st Division with valid NETIGATE qualification.
OR
✔️ ME/M.Tech in Opto Electronics in 1st Division both at Graduate and Post graduate level.
6) (JRF) Physics

✔️ Post graduate Degree in Basic Science pertaining to the subject/discipline in 1st Division with valid NET qualification.

✔️ Step-1: Interested candidates may appear for a Walk-in Interview on the mentioned dates & time at Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya in the campus of NAVAL PHYSICAL & OEANOGRAPHIC LABORATORY, THRIKKAKARA P.O., KOCHI 682021 They are required to produce all certificates/testimonials/Community certificate / valid GATE/NET Score card etc. in original at the time of Interview.
✔️ Step-2: Read CAREFULLY all the instructions given on the website.
✔️ Step-3: They must also bring a set of self attested copies of all their testimonials/certificates and an ID proof (Voter’s ID/ Aadhar card/Pan card/Driving License) along with one recent color passport size photograph at the time of interview.
✔️ Step-4: The Walk-in Interview process will be conducted as per the existing guidelines of Government for COVID-19 management, including use of face masks and practicing hand-hygiene.
✔️ Step-5: Prospective candidates for the walk-in interview may e-mail their one-page bio-data to [email protected], for making necessary administrative arrangements.
✔️ Step-6: A panel for the vacancies available and future vacancies will be drawn and the Panel will operate for a period of one year. However, the mere fact of empanelment will not entitle any candidate to an offer of Fellowship, which is contingent upon occurrence of vacancies during the year. Director, NPOL reserves the right not to select any candidate, if suitable candidates are not available.
