Functions of Central Silk Board

  1. Research and Development:

Central Silk Board carries out research and development activities to improve the quality and quantity of silk production. It focuses on the development of new breeds of silkworms, improvement of cocoon production, and the development of new technologies for silk production.

2.Training and Extension:

CSB provides training and extension services to silk farmers, weavers, and other stakeholders in the silk industry. It conducts training programs on various aspects of silk production such as cocoon rearing, silk reeling, and weaving.

3.Promotion of Sericulture:

The board promotes sericulture activities by providing financial assistance to farmers for cocoon production, distribution of silk worm seed, and purchase of silk reeling machines.

4.Quality Control:

CSB is responsible for maintaining the quality of silk products in India. It conducts quality control checks on silk products to ensure that they meet the prescribed standards.
